Basic Technical Rules and Installation & Usage Instructions for Glass Wool
I. Technical Specifications for Glass Wool Felt Installation
External wall insulation
Placement of the veneer: If the product comes with a veneer, ensure that the veneer faces outward.
Vertical installation of roll felts: At the top of the building, secure the glass wool roll felts using two fasteners (e.g., thermal insulation nails). Unroll the felts vertically along the wall surface, placing fasteners with a diameter of at least 90 mm in the center of each roll. When the building height does not exceed 40 m, the maximum spacing between any two fasteners should not exceed 1.35 m.
Horizontal installation of roll felts: When the building height does not exceed 40 meters, unroll the roll felts horizontally and place fasteners (such as thermal insulation nails) at intervals of 1.20 meters. The diameter of these fasteners (thermal insulation nails) shall be no less than 90 mm. Then, add purlins at intervals of 0.60 meters to reinforce the glass wool. Refer to the illustrations for detailed construction procedures.
Note: When encountering special areas such as doors and windows, you should appropriately increase the number of fasteners (thermal insulation nails) to ensure both the secure installation and aesthetic appearance of the glass wool in these areas.
Internal wall insulation
1. Use a wallpaper knife to cut the glass wool to a length that is 1 to 2 cm longer than the wall height.
2. Place two fixtures in the middle of the pre-designed wall to secure the glass wool.
3. Attach the glass wool to the wall with the adhesive side facing inward and aligning edge to edge.
4. Properly handle the seam locations and remove any excess parts of the fasteners.
Roof construction
1. When laying glass wool rolls, orient the facing side toward the interior of the room and place them perpendicular to the purlins. Leave about 20 centimeters extra of the roll at one eave end, and secure it to the outermost purlin using specialized clips or double-sided tape.
2. When unrolling the material, ensure proper alignment and tension. Lay the glass wool roll felt up to the opposite eave, leaving an extra 20 centimeters of felt on that side as well. Secure it to the outermost purlin using specialized clips or double-sided adhesive tape.
3. The two cotton rolls are joined together by stapling along the edge of the facing.
4. Install the colored steel roofing sheets, remove the specialized clamps at the eaves, and use the reserved 20-centimeter facing strip to finish the edges with glass wool.
5. Pay attention to the tension and alignment of the glass wool rolls, ensuring tight seams between adjacent rolls. When longitudinal overlaps are required, the overlap joints should be positioned over the purlins.
6. According to the project requirements, to avoid thermal bridges, consider placing some rigid insulation material on top of the purlins.
Wall construction
1. With the facing side oriented toward the interior, unroll the material from the eaves down to the base of the wall. Use double-sided tape to secure the glass wool to the lowest purlin, leaving an extra 20 centimeters.
2. At the point where the glass wool roll felt extends 20 centimeters beyond the top purlin of the wall, cut it off and secure it with double-sided tape.
3. Trim the glass wool and install the color-coated steel panels on the walls.
4. The two cotton rolls are joined together by stapling along the facing edges.
5. Pay attention to keeping the glass wool rolls tightly stretched, aligned, and vertical, and ensure that the seams between rolls are tightly sealed.
Precautions
* Glass wool should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area and protected from rain during transportation.
* Glass wool should be kept away from open flames, and special attention should be paid to molten welding slag at the construction site.
* Since the glass wool substrate has excellent elasticity, whereas the polypropylene facing material generally exhibits greater expansion than the embedded reinforcing ribs, after installation is complete, the glass wool substrate may lift the polypropylene plastic facing, resulting in noticeable longitudinal streaks along the location of the reinforcing ribs. Due to uneven application of force during construction, the density, direction, and depth of these streaks will vary, thereby affecting the aesthetic appearance. To avoid this issue, it is essential to hire experienced construction workers who can perform the installation meticulously and use uniform, specialized clamps when tensioning the glass wool.
II. Technical Specifications for the Installation of Glass Wool Boards
1. Install a metal frame on the floor and the corresponding roof, ensuring that the frame is perpendicular to the floor.
2. Between the already installed metal frames, erect vertical metal frames at 60 cm intervals.
3. Attach gypsum board to one side of the frame and secure it to the frame.
4. Place glass wool between the frames.
5. Secure the gypsum board on the other side.
III. Technical Specifications for the Installation of High-Temperature Glass Wool
Weld pins onto the surface of the equipment in advance, then use wire to secure high-temperature glass wool around the equipment’s surface. When the temperature of the equipment requiring insulation exceeds 250℃, it is best to adopt a double-layer insulation approach. The joints between the inner and outer glass wool layers should be staggered to prevent thermal bridges that could lead to heat loss. If the temperature of the equipment requiring insulation exceeds 400℃, it is recommended to use aluminum silicate of a certain thickness for the inner layer and high-temperature-resistant glass wool for the outer layer; again, the joints between these two layers should be staggered. Finally, wrap an outer covering layer over the outside—this not only protects the glass wool but also meets aesthetic requirements.
